The Promises of God in the Old and New Testament

In the Old Testament, there are several promises that God made to His people, and seven notable ones include:

1. (Genesis 12:2) Promise of Blessing Abraham – God promised to make Abraham a great nation and to bless him.

2. (Genesis 12:7) Promise of Land for Israel – God pledged to give the land of Canaan to the descendants of Abraham.

3. (Isaiah 7:14) Promise of a Savior – God foretold the coming of a Messiah who would bring salvation to humanity.

4. (Jeremiah 30:3)Promise of Restoration – God assured the Israelites that He would restore them from captivity and bring them back to their land.

5. (Jeremiah 31:31-34) Promise of the New Covenant – God promised to make a new covenant with His people, one that would be written on their hearts.

6. (Ezekiel 36:26-27) Promise of Spiritual Renewal – God promised to give His people a new heart and a new spirit, and to put His Spirit within them.

7. (Ezekiel 37:21-22) Promise of Restoration of Israel – God promised to gather and bring back the dispersed people of Israel to their land and bless them.

In the New Testament, there are also seven significant promises of God, including:

1. (John 3:16) Promise of Salvation through Faith – God promised that whoever believes in His Son, Jesus Christ, will have eternal life.

2. (Acts 1:8) Promise of the Holy Spirit – God assured believers of the coming of the Holy Spirit to guide, comfort, and empower them.

3. (Philippians 4:7) Promise of Peace – God promised to give His followers peace that surpasses all understanding.

4. (2 Corinthians 12:9) Promise of Strength in Weakness – God assured that His grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in weakness.

5.  (1 Peter 1:4) Promise of Eternal Inheritance – God promised an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade.

6. (Hebrews 13:5) Promise of His Presence – God assured believers that He will never leave them nor forsake them.

7.  (Revelation 22:7) Promise of the Second Coming – God promised that Jesus will return to establish His kingdom and reign forever.

While many promises made by Jesus Christ in the New Testament have been fulfilled, one that has not yet been completely fulfilled is the promise of His return to establish His kingdom, judge the world, and bring about the new heaven and new earth (Revelation 22:12). This promise remains a future hope for believers.
